Now that you’ve been on a salmon run

We invite you to participate in our salmon ritual.

Alaska’s Bristol Bay is home to the planet's last healthy salmon run. When its people watched other fisheries collapse, they responded with a system of restraint. They agreed that only when population-replenishing fish have already swum upstream could the commercial vessels begin to harvest. This ecological pact has ensured that salmon keep flowing into perpetuity.

Along came the Pebble Mine, a proposal that would sterilize salmon waters with industrial effluent. Even the anti-environment US administration had the decency to pause its construction. And yet $1 trillion of gold and copper remains in the ground, with miners waiting for, and even attempting to instigate, a betrayal of fish by human.

Only the viability of vibrant sustainable fisheries can ensure that the people of Bristol Bay will resist schemes of short-term extraction that cause long-term extinction.

That's where your eating comes in. Counter intuitively, by ingesting this salmon’s life you are keeping their species alive. Through this act, tens of millions of fish and thousands of humans will ever unfurl into an interspecies tapestry.
